Offshore Geotechnical Investigations

OGD1
OGD2

FSME offers a comprehensive catalogue of offshore geotechnical site investigation and engineering services. Our dedicated DP II drillship enables us to provide tailored investigations in all the Middle East offshore and coastal region. The ship is equipped with a drilling derrick positioned over the central moonpool making it a stable working platform during drilling operations. Downhole tools and seabed equipments are available for sampling, coring and in-situ testing which gives flexibility to develop most suitable and cost effective investigation program in all strata from very soft clay to hard rock including alternated conditions. In addition, FSME owns a specialist mobile equipment set to provide geotechnical site investigation and rig sitting engineering solution for jack-up rig moves with high operational time constraint.

Our main services includes offshore site investigations for production facilities, jack-up rigs, anchoring systems, subsea cables and pipelines, reclamation and dredging project as well as various types of coastal and marine structures. The services typically involve a field data collection exercise, laboratory testing and engineering analysis. In some instances the work required may be limited to engineering consulting service. Typical engineering services comprise but are not limited to:

  • Deep foundation system design for production platforms, wellhead tower, subsea template, risers, flares, buoys, …
  • Mudmat design for temporary support of piled subsea structure during installation as well as various shallow foundations for light subsea structures
  • Conductor design and assessment
  • Anchoring system design
  • Pile driving prediction assessment and analyses
  • Leg penetration analyses for jack-up rig
  • Design verification of in-place piled foundation using installation record and latest design method for service life extension and upgrade of facilities
  • Sand search data review and qualification, recommendations for offshore reclamations
  • Recommendations for subsea pipeline and cable installation
  • Geotechnical hazard evaluation including liquefaction potential analysis, qualitative scour potential, slope stabilities…

Laboratory testings are performed in Fugro’s own local facilities accredited to ISO IEC 17025:2005 and our quality system are certified by ISO 9001;2008. Main testing capabilities relevant to offshore geotechnical activities include:

  • Soil classification testings (water content, Atterberg limits, sieve, hydrometer, …)
  • Unit weight and specific gravity determination
  • Unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression test
  • Consolidated-undrained triaxial compression test
  • Consolidated-drained triaxial compression test
  • Consolidation test using oedometer
  • Miniature vane test
  • Direct shear test
  • Unconfined compression and point load test
  • Rock-grout bond strength test
  • Geochemical tests (content of carbonate, organic, sulfide, chloride, PH, …)
  • Construction material tests

FSME maintains its own a staff of experienced drillers, soil technicians, engineers, and related personnel for field assignments. We provide high quality geotechnical services as the very experienced and qualified staff have access to international expertise of the worldwide network of Fugro Offices.
