Rig Moves and Positioning

RIG Moves and Positioning RIG Moves and Positioning

Drilling rig operations are extremely costly exercises requiring rapid reaction solutions and minimal downtime.  FSME provides the following comprehensive range of drilling rig moving and positioning services:

  • Tow outs
  • Inter-field moves
  • Anchor handling tug control and anchor drop positioning
  • Underwater acoustic positioning solutions
  • Underwater template installation and alignment.
  • Final positioning and heading confirmation
  • Remote rig position QC monitoring

For rig move events, FSME can mobilise personnel and positioning / navigation equipment with a very short lead time. Co-ordination of anchor handling vessels and rig positioning / alignment are controlled by the survey personnel onboard the rig itself (or from an anchor handling tug as directed by the Client).  Control of the anchor handling vessels is effected using Fugro's Tug Management software, with data telemetered to and fro using a radio link.

On occasion, when the rig touchdown location is critical (for example when moving a drilling rig alongside a subsea template), FSME can offer high precision rig-to-template moves, using the latest technology in highly accurate underwater acoustic positioning systems, gyrocompasses and inclinometers, with ROV assistance / confirmation of touchdown if required.
